The Young Writer’s Workshop presents…

Crazy Writing Month

NaNoWriMo may no longer be around.

But you can still make serious progress on your book this Fall.

This October, Young Writer’s Workshop students will have the opportunity to get additional support and see just how much they can write in a single month.

Dates: October 1 – 31

FAQ

Why is this just for Workshop students this year?

In 2025, we were able to open Crazy Writing Month to writers who weren’t already in our Young Writer’s Workshop program. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the manpower needed to do so in 2026. As a result, this year, we’re just letting Workshop students participate in Crazy Writing Month, but we hope to revisit this in 2027 so we can allow non-Workshop students to join us again!

Why is this taking place in October?

While NaNoWriMo traditionally happened over the month of November, we wanted to choose a month that wasn’t so close to the holidays to make it easier for busy students to fit this into their school schedules.

Do I have to write 30,000 words in order to participate?

Not at all! While we’re encouraging that as a good benchmark to hit, participants are welcome to set their own goals, whether those are higher or lower than 30,000 words.

How is this different from Crazy Writing Week?

Crazy Writing Week is a weeklong intensive program we run every January that also focuses on helping teens write a lot in a short period of time. Crazy Writing Month, however, is designed to help teens develop more long-term writing habits while accomplishing larger word count goals. It also offers new features like bi-weekly Office Hours with instructors.
